Founded in 2007 and with offices in Europe and Silicon Valley, Fortumo is an open mobile payment platform, currently operating in more than 30 countries worldwide. We allow virtual goods providers, social networks, app developers, online and offline businesses to better monetize their users. With Fortumo, everyone can launch revenue-generating mobile payment service instantly and without any startup or monthly costs.

We offer a wide range of countries, multiple price-points, competitive revenue sharing and ready to use widgets. Fortumo believes that anyone, from home-based businesses to global web entrepreneurs should have open, easy and cheap access to mobile payments. We believe that making a revenue-generating mobile service should be as easy and cheap as creating a blog or a webpage.

History

2007

• Founded in May 2007, Fortumo started operating a free and easy mobile payment platform in 7 countries of Northern Europe: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
• Fortumo wins the 1st prize in the "e-Business" category of the World Summit Awards Estonian round.

2008

• Fortumo expands to Asia, opening the mobile payment service in China in August.
• New European markets include Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia.
• Fortumo was named Best Nordic Mobile Start-Up by Arcticstartup & Nordic Mobile Media conference 2008.

2009

• Fortumo expands its easy mobile payment service to 12 new countries in Europe (UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic and Bosnia).
• New Asian markets include Taiwan, Hongkong, Malaysia, Indonesia.
• Fortumo started targeting Russian speaking countries, opening services first in Russia.
• Fortumo was chosen as one of the world’s twenty most exciting mobile start-ups at the Mobile Monday Peer Awards 2009.
• Fortumo is listed among TOP 100 most interesting startups in Europe by TechCrunch.
